The department of environmental affairs and tourism's vision is:

A prosperous and equitable society living in harmony with our resources. Our mission is to lead sustainable development of our environment and tourism for a better life for all, by:

Creating conditions for sustainable tourism growth and development;

Promoting the sustainable development and conservation of our natural resources;

Protecting and improving the quality and safety of the environment;

Promoting a global sustainable development agenda;

Transformation of the department, statutory bodies and economic sector for which we are responsible.

Library objectives
To provide bibliographic support to all including the staff at mcm. To maintain, preserve and support valuable research materials in adherence to the broad spectrum of marine science activities undertaken by mcm: deat in their bid towards sustainable development of south africa’s marine resources.
